Sial 2008: Sial dedicates a whole day to Frui and Vegetables

Sial 2008: Boosted by government drives to encourage good nutrition and by innovative initiatives to make consumption easy and attractive, fruit and vegetables can look forward to a healthy future. Fruit and Vegetables is a major sector at SIAL, and one that fully reflects the exhibition’s international character. Exhibitors from around 20 countries will be presenting a vibrant and diverse offer

While the Sial Trends & Innovations Monitor will showcase their creativity in fulfilling consumer needs and the Sial d’Or awards will feature the commercial successes – from Ireland to the Czech Republic, from Italy to New Zealand – which have been restoring this sector’s dynamic position within the food world. And on top of all this, for one whole day – Tuesday 21 October, the third day of the exhibition – fruit and vegetables will be starring in a number of events.
In the Nutrition Agora, two talks will be analysing fruit and vegetables from two key perspectives:
"The superfruits, superfoods and the super-ingredients of tomorrow"
Fruit and vegetables – the 21st century foodstuff par excellence? It’s an ambitious vision – from an ambitious and forward-looking sector, presented by Helen Conn, Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology, a member of the Royal Society of Medicine’s Food and Health Forum and a member of Leatherhead Food International’s Nutrition and Health Committee.
"World tour of the fruit and vegetable offer and consumption habits"
If fruit and vegetables are at the heart of tomorrow’s food world, what will this future look like? A panel discussion with participants including Philippe Comolet-Tirman, Marketing and Communications Manager, Aprifel (Agence Pour la Recherche et l'Information en Fruits et Légumes Frais – the agency for research and information on fresh fruit and vegetables), Guillaume Bapst, Director of Andes (Association Nationale de Développement des Épiceries Solidaires – a network of food retailers that helps promote access to fruit and vegetables for the disadvantaged), Georges Grunenwald, Quality and Communications Manager, Picard, and Roland Vaxelaire, Chairman of the Board, Carrefour Belgium.
In La Cuisine du Sial , the Andes network will present their project to raise awareness of the importance of eating fruit and vegetables among all consumers in the Paris region, and especially among the lowest-income groups. Sixty outlets in the Paris region will be supporting this campaign, promoting cooking strategies for a balanced diet, based on the use of fruit and vegetables. This event takes place on Tuesday 21 October from 11 am to midday.
