The Nutrition Agora – an information centre
Consumers the world over are concerned about nutrition which has become a driver for the food industry; nutrition issues will feature prominently at the next SIAL.
There’ll be a full programme with some 30 talks giving insights into four main nutrition-related fields – behaviour, eating and health, nutrifunctional ingredients and sustainable health. Speakers include researchers, medical practitioners, sociologists and company managers. The forum will address a range of topics from nutrition and catering, culinary design and food behaviour to nutrigenomics, food allergies and the impact of preserving techniques.

The competition is exclusive to SIAL exhibitors and the prizewinning product will be displayed in the Trends and Innovations area. The prize will be awarded during the exhibition.

IN-FOOD, the food ingredients dedicated event
Taking place at the same time and under the same roof as SIAL, the 4th IN-FOOD will generate new leads for its exhibitors, especially export opportunities.
Devoted to Food Ingredients and semi-processed products as well as to subcontracting solutions, IN-FOOD is a unique food industry B2B event. IN-FOOD Center - Ingredients, Sourcing and Ideas
What added value can ingredients and semi-processed products bring to processed foods? An exhibition plus a full programme of talks and workshops will provide answers to this question, looking at 4 key areas: premium, health and nutrition, beauty and profitability.

"Reaching out to a more international customer base": this is the participation main target of André Bazin
Interview with Arnaud Evano, Industrial Sales Manager, André Bazin:
"The semi-processed food market is buoyant even if the current economic climate is leading to the increased globalisation of the finished product market. This has prompted us to extend our portfolio to export countries: the fact that IN-FOOD takes place during SIAL will enable us to reach a more international customer base. We’ll be presenting new products that are easier to use than ever, with calibrated formats and recipes formulated to reflect consumption trends: low in salt and fat, for example. But above all, we will focus our development efforts on our existing and potential partners’ priorities."

Sustainable development in progress
Sustainable development has become one of the main drivers for business, as the next SIAL will demonstrate…
Sustainable development brings together 3 key concerns: environmental protection, social balance and business ethics. Three issues which food manufacturers and distributors have made a priority concern: treatment of effluent and waste, reducing packaging, saving energy, protecting the ecosystem…

… through talks
Some of these topics will be tackled in the Nutrition Agora, such as environmental labelling, the "clean label" trend (additive-free products), and the needs of the food industry in relation to environmental concerns such as the protection of marine resources. The FEEF (French association of businesses and business leaders) will give a talk on initiatives spearheaded by distributors and manufacturers.

… products
Sustainable development will be in evidence in every aisle and there’ll be a special theme trail devoted to the subject. There’ll be visible evidence of the boom it has created in certain product offers, especially in the organic foods sector and in the new Fairtrade area.
Exhibitors already signed up : Monbana, Max Havelaar, Malongo, Ethiquable, Routin, Vitamont.

… and action
And SIAL itself will be a model for sustainable development. In 2008, its 80,000 bags will be provides by Formplast Group from apple waste; there is a bag sponsorship opportunity too. The newly opened Hall 7 will be an environmental hall and selective rubbish sorting will take place during the exhibition. As always, food banks will distribute exhibitors’ products that are still fit for consumption to the needy (47 tonnes collected in 2006) and the Association Nationale des Epiceries Solidaires will launch its campaign to provide access to fruit and vegetables for the most disadvantaged members of society.

Dairy products, a leading sector in Hall 5B
The ever-growing dairy products sector will occupy an entire hall at SIAL, with a strong international presence.
Reflecting its share of the international food market (14% of turnover for European food manufacturers, for example), dairy products represent SIAL’s biggest sector in terms both of the number of exhibitors and stand space. This year it will occupy the entire Hall 5B.
The dairy products sector is as dynamic as ever, as is reflected in the registrations to date, up on the number at the same time two years ago. National and regional pavilions give particular prominence to dairy products, accounting for 45%, demonstrating their commitment to presenting their offer within the product sectors themselves, especially dairy.

More than 30 countries
Again mirroring the marketplace, dairy products is one of the most international sectors at SIAL with some 30 countries participating. The dairy products top 10 countries (so far) are: France, Italy, Netherlands, Greece, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, Austria and Poland.
Exhibitors already signed up: Ambrosi (Italy), Bongrain (France), Campina (Netherlands), Consorzio Mozzarella di Bufala Campai (Italy), Eurial Poitouraine (France), Friesland Food Cheese (Netherlands), Giacomo International Food (Germany), Goshua (Spain), Lactalis (France), Maxpol (Poland), Saputo (Argentina), Senoble (France) …
