Piedra 2008: Coinciding Activities

Piedra '08 will also provide the setting for the staging of the Second International Congress on Stone in Architecture, organised by the Spanish Natural Stone Federation, in collaboration with the Stone Association of the Madrid Region, Ifema and the Official College of Architects of Madrid. This Congress will take place on 9th May in the South Auditorium at Feria de Madrid. At this edition the Congress will once again boast the Honorary Presidency of H.R.H. the Prince of Asturias.

Furthermore, in order to mark the staging of PIiedra, Ifema and the Spanish Federation of Natural Stone (FDP) have organised the 11th edition of the Piedra'08 Architecture Awards, a form of recognition conceived as a means of promoting the industry, one that highlights the close connection that exists between this exhibition and the worlds of architecture and construction. The purpose of this prize is to encourage the use of Spanish natural stone and to promote a greater knowledge of its value, quality and decorative possibilities for the construction industry. This event, which enjoys worldwide status, attracts architects whose already-completed projects entailed the use of Spanish natural stone in some capacity.

Another of the activities planned for this edition includes the presentation of an exhibition on contemporary architecture, organised by the Spanish Foreign Trade Institute (ICEX) under the title of "The Natural Seduction of Stone: Contemporary Architecture in Spain".
