Over 52.000 professionals visited Motortec 05
The growing stature of the visiting professionals and their increased purchasing power were the two most outstanding aspects of MOTORTEC, the International Vehicle Equipment and Components Trade Show, whose eighth edition, inaugurated by the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, José Montilla, brought together a total of 52,014 professionals from 71 countries between 11th and 15th May. With regard to the total number of visitors throughout the entire five-day duration of the event, the figure came 59,510.
The fair, which featured the participation of 856 companies from 24 countries and more than 2,100 represented companies, confirmed its status as the leading trade event for the after-sales sector in Spain and one of the three largest fairs on the European circuit, featuring some favourable results that are especially significant in terms of one of MOTORTEC´s main aspirations, the consolidation of its international dimension. In effect, the trade show achieved a new record in terms of foreign participation, featuring 233 exhibitors, which represents more than 27% of the overall event, confirming the fact that the Spanish market (represented by 623 companies) is especially attractive to international companies from the industry.
Along the same lines, the number of foreign professionals came to 3,314 visitors from 71 countries. Portugal, Italy, France and Germany were, in this order, the countries that featured most strongly at the event in terms of international participation, followed by the Netherlands, Belgium, the United States, Morocco and Tunisia. As far as the Spanish visitors were concerned, we might highlight the fact that, although Madrid once again headed the list of Spanish regions, it only represented 35% of the total, with the majority of the professionals visiting the fair coming from the rest of Spain (65%), especially from the regions of Castile-Leon, Andalusia, Valencia, Castile-La Mancha and Catalonia.
MOTORTEC Strengthens its Strong Professional Appeal These results highlight the potential of this event in its capacity as one of the most important trade forums for the industry, as witnessed by the qualitative advance that the fair has made in terms of its professional profile. Although the number of visitors witnessed a slight decrease of 4.9%, we might highlight the significant increase in their professional stature, as well as their decision-making capacity and purchasing power. This much is reflected in the considerable decrease in their number of companions, featuring a drop of 24.6%, not to mention the strong presence of professional groups of considerable importance within the industry that have enhanced their presence. We might also mention the garages, that increased their representation at the event due to the campaigns that were carried out specifically targeting this sector.
One of the features that has characterized MOTORTEC and been a key to its success over the last eight editions is its high professional stature, an aspect that was once again strengthened at this edition. In this sense, an analysis of the activities pursued by the visitors to the fair confirms that 32.07% operate within the Garage and Workshop segment, at the head of the table, followed by the Distribution segment (18.72%), the Manufacturing segment (12.01%) and the Retail Trade (9.44%). These segments are followed by the Dealerships (6.20%), Importers (6.73%), Purchasing Groups (3.33%), Engineering Concerns (2.17%), the Media (0.91%) and another 8.40% corresponding to other activities.
Regarding the professional range of the visitors within the business structure, the information collected points towards the following trend: The largest percentage, 24.03% belong to the Management area; Sales Area (19.34%); 17.71%, to Technical Management and 9.12% to Purchasing. This is followed by the area of Administration, with 6.95%; Maintenance (6.26%); Research and Development (2.63%); Training (2.58%) and others (9.96%).
Furthermore, with regard to the status of these professionals, the figures confirm that almost 50% of these visitors to MOTORTEC were members of upper management: 14.68% were Chairmen or Managing Directors of their companies; 15.21% were Managers and 18.39% were Department Heads. Alongside these professionals, 14.55% were Mechanics, 16.69% were Employees, 8.98% were Salesmen, 3.42% were Engineers and 8.07% occupied other posts within the company.

An Essential Date for All Members of the Industry All of these figures confirm the role of MOTORTEC as an outstanding meeting forum for the after-sales sector and an important international business centre. The success of this event is partly due to the intensive promotional campaigns carried out by the trade show in collaboration with SERNAUTO, which have led to this increase in highly qualified demand. We might also highlight the excellent business opportunities at the event, which have promoted the visit of groups of international buyers from the countries of Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Mediterranean Region upon the invitation of the fair organizers. These initiatives had a wide-ranging commercial impact and produced some highly positive results for the exhibiting companies.
The Third Innovation Gallery, which on this occasion was presented in a real exhibition at the trade show, was also warmly received, highlighting the industry´s competitive capacity and its growing investment drive with regard to research and development. At this edition, ten winning products were selected by the expert jury. This distinction, which presents a seal of approval throughout the product´s entire marketing campaign, acknowledges the winners´ innovative contribution to the motoring industry
The organizers were also very pleased with the success of the First Europe Autoparts Trade Meeting, an event sponsored by the European Union, which took place within the framework of the fair and generated an estimated turnover of 3 million euros. On 12th and 13th May this meeting encompassed the staging of a total of 569 interviews, featuring the participation of some 124 companies from 12 countries: Germany, Belgium, Bulgaria, Spain, France, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Romania, Poland, Portugal and Sweden.
MOTORTEC once again enjoyed the unanimous support of the industry, through the participation of all the associations from the after-sales field. These bodies chose this fair in order to stage their trade sector meetings and events, due to its wide-ranging level of representation and importance to the industry. The associations also presented their new technological projects to the industry at MOTORTEC.
