Matelec 2008: The International Exhibition of Electrical and Electronic Equipment will take place from 10/28/08 to 11/01/08

Matelec 2008: In 2007, Spaniards used 2.7% more energy. The renewable energies, which increased their contribution by 14.4% to the system as a whole, will be the starring roles at MATELEC through the Forum on Sustainability

Matelec, the International Exhibition of Electrical and Electronic Equipment, organisedby Ifema, between 28th October and 1st November 2008, will become the meeting point for the electrical sector in Spain. This event will be take place at Feria de Madrid. A booming sector according to the 'Preview of the electrical year 2007' by Unesa (Spanish Association of the Electrical Industry).
Following the trend shown over the past 10 years, during which consumption has increased by 65%, in 2007 Spaniards used 2.7% more energy, reaching 267,668 million kWh. An increase that goes hand in hand with the growth in production of 2.9%, which meant the energy production of 312,556 million kWh. Only nuclear energy saw its production reduced in 2007, as this period coincided with the halts for refuelling in seven of the eight nuclear power plants.
Likewise, in spite of the important drop seen in the price of electricity on the production market (around 32%), the sector invested 6,570 million euros during 2007, in this way exceeding the figure for investments made in the previous period by 15.8%.  These investment figures double the figure of the net results forecasted for the national electrical activity.
Keeping this reality clearly in sight, the trade fair will bring together the main associations and companies from the sector in Madrid, where they will present their latest new features and they will analyse the situation of the electrical market in Spain.
Matelec takes the pulse of renewable energies.
Sustainability will be one of the main issues at Matelec 08, through its Forum for Sustainability. Some technical conferences where eco-efficient products will be displayed and talks on the sector's contribution to the sustainability in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energies will be given.
And the fact is that, according to the latest report by UNESA, the boom in renewable energies in Spain causes the increase in the Special Regime production during 2007 by 8%. Therefore, the production of renewable energies went from 33,069 kWh in 2006 to 37,845 kWh in 2007 (+14.4%).
