Hannover Messe 2008 presents the 3rd World Energy Dialogue - The Future of Power Plants and Grids

At the third WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE at HANNOVER MESSE (the Hannover Fair) on 22 and 23 April 2008, experts from the energy industry, the public sector and the world of finance will be taking steps towards ensuring a sustainable and cost-effective supply of energy. WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE 2007 highlighted ways of significantly improving energy efficiency. Now, a series of rapid developments on the raw materials markets are helping to create innovative power plant solutions and forward-looking energy partnerships. Climate experts Dr. Klaus Töpfer and Stephan Kohler, Chief Executive of the German Energy Agency (dena) will chair the WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE and host the congress.

The primary focus will be on the pressing challenges of climate protection and the massive demand for energy on growth markets such as China and India. The latest report on world energy issued by the International Energy Agency (IEA) warns in no uncertain terms that imports of oil and gas, and therefore CO2 emissions, will continue to rise until 2030 unless governments alter their policies now and companies begin to concentrate investment in more energy-efficient technologies.

The WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE is therefore at the very heart of a worldwide debate. The topics to be addressed in Hannover include globally available energy sources, international mega-trends in energy efficiency and decentralized power generation, plus low-CO2 power plant solutions. The potential of the technologies involved will be explored in depth, and as tangibly as possible. For the first time, the WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE will take place in Hall 27, a location that puts this event at the very hub of the exhibition. In Hall 27, the three leading energy trade fairs are gathered together under one roof - Energy, Power Plant Technology and Pipeline Technology. HANNOVER MESSE is the only trade fair that ensures equal representation of both conventional and renewable energies side-by-side, giving true insight into the energy mix of the future.

"HANNOVER MESSE is the world's foremost technology event and therefore the ideal setting for debate on the global challenges we face today. The WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE provides the perfect opportunity for enriching, top-level knowledge- and opinion-sharing on the subject of climate-friendly, energy-efficient power plant technologies," comments Sepp D. Heckmann, Chairman of the Managing Board at Deutsche Messe.

Speakers confirmed for WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE 2008 include:

- Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs
- Dr. Antonio Pflüger, Head of Energy Technology Collaboration Division, International Energy Agency (IEA)
- Jürgen R. Thumann, President of the Federation of German Industries
- Dr. Mark M. Little, Senior Vice President and Director of Global Research, GE
- Dr. Alfred Tacke, Chairman of the Management Board of Evonik Staeg GmbH
- Dr. Burckhard Bergmann, Chairman of the Board of Management, E.ON Ruhrgas AG
