Motion, Drive & Automation

Complete global market for power transmission and control in Hannover 1,300 exhibitors from around the world Focus on condition monitoring and energy efficiency

"Motion, Drive & Automation" (MDA) the world's leading trade fair for power transmission and control, which is held every two years, is one of the mainstays of HANNOVER MESSE 2007 (the Hannover Fair) and rounds off the industrial automation offering perfectly. The net display space covers approximately 50,000 square meters, making MDA one of the biggest display areas at HANNOVER MESSE. Around 1,300 international exhibitors will be showcasing their latest products from the fields of power transmission and control from 16 - 20 April 2007 in Halls 19 to 26 and at the open-air site. These key components set the standard for the overall quality of all machines and are integral parts of automation.

MDA encompasses the entire range of products available on the global market for electrical and mechanical power transmission, hydraulics and pneumatics. Strong synergies are generated between power transmission and control and industrial and process automation, a sector that is setting out its full range of products and solutions at HANNOVER MESSE at the Factory Automation and Interkama+ trade fairs.

The all-encompassing topic that affects all exhibitors at MDA 07 is life cycle management - continuous, innovation-driven support for products throughout their entire service life, from product concept through to recycling. Life cycle management involves designing each product to ensure optimum support throughout the entire product service life. Individual life cycle management modules will be on show at MDA 2007.

Condition monitoring systems (CMS) - CMS monitor machines and systems to identify sources of error early on and therefore prevent production downtimes. These systems provide great potential for cost cutting as the service life of critical machine components can be utilized to the full and any preventive maintenance required can be scheduled in line with the production plan. As in 2005, HANNOVER MESSE is host to the CMS special display with more than 40 exhibitors covering around 1,000 square meters.

Energy saving drives - as costs for oil, gas and electricity continue to rise, the issue of energy efficiency is becoming more and more important for production. Innovative motors, gear units and couplings that cut costs contribute to efficient energy use and are on display on almost all stands at the MDA.

Total cost of ownership - this approach is used to calculate the total cost of capital goods, i.e. not just the procurement costs, but all other costs encountered later in the product life cycle (energy costs, repair and maintenance). This calculation identifies both known cost factors and hidden costs before a decision on the investment is made. MDA exhibitors are now focusing more closely on these aspects to allow their customers around the world to see the actual benefits of the products they are buying.

MDA forum

As in 2005, the MDA forum will be held every day in Hall 24 to highlight important aspects of power transmission and control by holding lectures on key trends in innovation. Topics such as power transmission and control for wind turbines, automation components or mobile hydraulics will be taken up by the MDA forum. This high-profile and informative event is organized by the VDMA (German Engineering Federation).

Power transmission and control play a role in all industry sectors. Representatives from mechanical and plant engineering, electrical engineering and electronics, industrial information technology, automotive engineering and component suppliers are eager to keep up-to-date with the markets of tomorrow.

Great international appeal

Two years ago, around 90,000 trade visitors came to MDA, with a third of them from abroad. Most international guests came from EU countries, Asia and the USA. Given the burgeoning demand for investment in China and India, exhibitors are expecting many more visitors from these regions this year than two years ago. The many foreign visitors make Motion, Drive & Automation the most important international industry trade fair by far.
