FM Solutions – specialist trade fair for facility management launches program in November
HANNOVER MESSE 2007 (the Hannover Fair) is presenting its leading trade fair for facility management (FM) under the new name FM Solutions. This name represents a new concept that will make the fair, now in its third year, a showcase for facility management. Industry, in particular SMEs, will be shown a range of innovative strategies and integrated solutions for managing their secondary business processes.
Targeting potential visitors and FM users is the central element in a range of measures for FM Solutions adopted long before the actual fair takes place. To launch the program, two industry seminars (29 November 2006 and 27 March 2007) and the FM Solutions User Congress (30/31 January 2007) are to be held at the Hannover Convention Center, Germany. These events are intended to make decision-makers in all industry sectors aware of their FM needs and inform them of the benefits of facility management. This clear focus on the user’s perspective will be continued at the FM Solutions fair (16 to 20 April 2007 at the HANNOVER MESSE) in the form of a user center. The center consists of illustrated “routes” with guided tours, briefings and exhibitions aimed at a range of target group segments. Managing directors, maintenance managers, or decision-makers from finance/controlling, facility management and purchasing can choose their specific routes to successful facility management. Exhibitors at FM Solutions can take advantage of an attractive cooperation package, which enables them to get to know potential customers at the events in the run-up to the trade fair and in the user center. They can also profit from accompanying measures, such as extensive target group research and a first-rate address database. 30 percent of balance sheet totals are not managed FM Solutions’ concept of focusing on improved user targeting is logical because although companies devote considerable management resources to their core business processes, secondary processes are at best dealt with separately, if at all. And many companies, particularly SMEs, are still unaware of what FM actually is, or they mistakenly think it only involves caretaker duties or building maintenance. They fail to picture core and secondary business processes as an integrated concept. Many companies are not even aware of the problem due to traditional organizational structures and a lack of transparency with regards to costs. The company management concentrates on the core business, and the secondary processes – that is, the tasks of FM – are distributed haphazardly among numerous departments. In fact, as a rule of thumb, 30 percent of balance sheet totals are linked to secondary processes, which means they are either unmanaged or managed inadequately. According to FM experts, a company can save between 10 and 20 percent of its costs by using professional facility management for its secondary processes. This means that both individual companies and the German economy as a whole are failing to unlock the considerable potential that exists in this regard. Industry trends bode well for FM Solutions 2007 “We want to give our visitors a better understanding of facility management. In other words, we want to show them how integrated and efficient secondary process management can be used to support their core business, ultimately creating added value for them,” says Wolfgang Pech, Senior Vice President of HANNOVER MESSE. Continual growth of the FM market underlines how important facility management is for industry. In fact, according to a study conducted by the market research company Lünendonk, German FM providers increased their sales by an average of 8.2 percent last year. However, demand for isolated, one-off services is still predominant. Wolfgang Pech continues, “We intend to showcase our whole range of services at FM Solutions next year, highlighting in particular how these are drawing ever closer together. Innovative and integrated system services are essential for a wide range of industry sectors, each with their own complex requirements. Exhibitors can already look forward to good attendance figures. We are expecting a significant increase in the total number of visitors to HANNOVER MESSE in 2007. And, combined with the measures planned in the run-up to and during the event, we are anticipating a good response for FM Solutions.”
