German companies are among the most innovative in the world. Small and medium-sized enterprises contribute particularly to the economy's top position with their new processes and products. This was confirmed by a recent study conducted by the Centre for European Economic Research. New products accounted for 24 percent of sales in the German industrial sector, the highest value of all the EU-15 countries.

Now, to bolster innovative strength in the future too, encourage the next generation and advance Germany as a technology location, Lower Saxony's Minister President Christian Wulff, North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology Professor Andreas Pinkwart, and President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft Professor Hans-Jörg Bullinger will join FERCHAU Engineering GmbH for the presentation of the FERCHAU Innovation Prizes.

The awards will be presented at the Hannover Fair on 16 April 2007 between 4 and 5 p.m. in Hall 2, Stand D36, on the stage of the VDI, the Association of German Engineers. Prizes worth EUR 10,000 each will go to the fields of mechanical and automotive engineering. Additional special prizes will be awarded for Prototype Realisation, Technical Maturity, Market Maturity, Sustainability, Creative Technology and the "Jugend forscht" prize for research by school pupils.

The competition was open to new graduates, young professionals, professionals and those newly setting up in business with an academic engineering qualification. Personnel experts will be on hand with tips and tricks for "Application Strategies".
