Consistent Further Development of the GLS Concept

GLS organisers successfully kicked off the début event in March with a total of 161 exhibitors and collections from 16 nations. This success was also confirmed by visitor numbers posting around 5,000 buyers from over 30 nations. In order to make GLS considerably more attractive for exhibitors and buyers alike, fair organisers are very concerned with consistent further development and optimisation of the platform for the international leather goods markets.

In addition to the new GLS and GDS dates, the trade fair concept has therefore also been reworked. Intense consultation with exhibitors and visitors revealed the need for improvements in the strategic position of the GLS halls.
This is also a view echoed by Peter Thelen, Unit Head at s.Oliver accessories: "Unfortunately, Hall 7a was not as well visited as we had expected. So I would welcome greater incorporation of GLS into the GDS halls rather than it being featured separately. This would also mean visitors would have shorter distances to cover."
Armin Stader, Project Manager at GLS added: "In order to cater to the demand for concentrated hall layout we have decided to integrate the segments of GLS into the halls of GDS. Closer integration into GDS will ensure the leather goods range will best benefit from visitor flow."
This means leather goods and shoe suppliers can benefit equally from each other's presence. The planned restructuring is already to be implemented as from the Autumn event.
By concentrating the presentation space for shoes and leather goods it will be possible to further increase those synergy effects already generated. For instance, the high-end to avantgarde shoe and bag range will be featured in one hall. The core fashion segment in the leather goods segment through to umbrellas and luggage will be located in its own hall which will be more closely incorporated into the GDS circuit. This will ensure the specialist leather goods trade a rapid and concentrated overview of the fashion range.
The basics segment will also be combined to guarantee volume buyers a perfect overview of the product portfolio. A joint GDS/GLS supporting programme will suitably round off the symbiosis of leather goods and shoes.
