Fimi 63rd edition: The steady growth of children´s fashion
The 63rd edition of FIMI, the International Fair of Children’s and Young People’s Fashion, held from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th June 2006, closed its doors with the participation of 199 Spanish and 102 international exhibitors, who presented their latest collections for the 2007 Spring Summer season.
The event registered 7128 trade visitors, 8.6% from outside Spain. Particularly noteworthy in this regard was the presence of buyers from Greece and the consolidation of visiting Russian trade buyers. Equally notable is the emerging Indian market, whose presence is beginning to be highly valued by exhibitors.
A total of 300 exhibiting firms presented over a gross exhibition area of 23,000 square metres the latest trends in a sector with 3000 plus points of sale and a business volume of €1148 million in Spain during the second half of 2005.
One of the main new introductions at the event was the presentation of special occasions collections, featured for the first time in a fashion show at FIMI. The most important brands in this sector took part at the Pasarela FIMI Special Occasions: Marla Española, Barcarola, Kobez, Ana M. Remesal-Bugui Bugui, Paqui Barroso and Suay, as well as collections by some of Spain’s leading fashion designers: Francis Montesinos, Hannibal Laguna and Devota & Lomba.
Besides, the by now classic Pasarela FIMI fashion shows featured collections from Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Bóboli, Lourdes, Pan con Chocolate, Pif by Nuria Aymerich, Rubio Kids, Schuss, Tuc Tuc, Tutto Piccolo, Victorio & Lucchino, plus beachwear collection from DC Kids, Marina Hernández and Mariona Barnils. They all showed the latest fashion trends for the 2007 summer season, under the title of “Let the Wind Blow”. It’s going to be a summer full of parties, the sea and yachting. A summer of winds: Monsoon, Northerly Wind and Sirocco. Three winds that bring with them other ways of seeing and other ways of feeling. Tie-in activities injected further dynamic energy into the fair, becoming one of its main incentives. These activities include the organisation of a conference on the textile sector attended by experts from the European Union, under the title “Quality Control in Children’s Fashion: European Proposals vis-à-vis Delocalization”; the presentation of upcoming fashion trends; and a window-dressing course aimed at retailers and other professionals who are aware of the need to sell through image. Exhibiting companies also organised their own promotional actions. That is the case, for example, of the School’s Out Party organized by Children’s Fashion from Portugal, presenting recent Portuguese fashion collections. After Italy, number one in the ranking, Portugal is one of the main buyers of Spanish Children Fashion. In the last year, most companies from the sector increased their turnover by 10.89%, with a particular noticeable rise in exports, which saw an overall growth of 19.57%. A highly positive feature for this sector is the almost 50% increase in exports to Russia. The results of the fair demonstrate that, for professionals, FIMI is the leading commercial event within the European children’s and young people’s fashion market. All the signs point to a steady growth in children’s fashion. The progress is further reflected in the participation of visiting commercial visits of buyers and media from countries including India, Japan, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Dominican Republic, Panama, Costa Rica, South Africa and Russia. All in all, an edition full of new features. FIMI will open its doors again from 12th and 14th January 2007, to present all the collections for the 2007-2008 Autumn Winter season.
