FIMAP: sector study shows positive figures

According to the latest study carried out by the Studies department of the Portuguese Business Association (AEP), the nine main segments of the sector exhibiting at FIMAP - International Woodworking Machines Fair represented in 2003 (the last year for which there are complete statistics) a total of 10,607 companies and 111,103 jobs.

The study states that the turnover was 6,725,2 million euros in that year and that the Gross Value Added (GVA) stayed at 2468.3 million euros.
Figures show that most of the above-mentioned segments (see list) saw their turnover increase and their GVA and productivity also went up. These figures prove the importance of the wood industry in Portugal (where it represents 5.3% of the Portuguese economy GVA, 12% of the industrial GNP, 9% of jobs in the whole industry and 12% of total Portuguese exports).
FIMAP/FERRÁLIA is the largest (biennial) exhibition of the sector. This year, between 11th and 14th October, it will be back at EXPONOR – Porto International Fair with the most important companies.
