The wood sector finds its niche at Construtec 2006

On 17th January 2006 IFEMA presented the new Monographic Exhibition of Wood in Architecture
The new Monographic Exhibition of Wood in Architecture enjoys the backing of the leading business associations within the industry.

The organizers of the Building Exhibition, CONSTRUTEC 2006, presented the Monographic Exhibition of Wood in Architecture , a new section that will form part of this fair, which is organised by IFEMA. The presentation event, aimed at the media and companies from the industry, took place at the Feria de Madrid fairground.
The presentation, which was chaired by Santiago Quiroga, the Head of CONSTRUTEC, was also attended by the following figures: José María Fernández, Head of ISG, the company that markets the fair; Ángel Ramírez, President of the Spanish Wooden Flooring Federation, FEPM, and José María García del Monte, an architect and Head of the Office of the College of Architects of Madrid, OCAM, and Member of the fair's Organizing Committee.
The Building Exhibition, CONSTRUTEC, will serve as an umbrella event for the new Monographic Exhibition of Wood in Architecture, which will take place between 9th and 12th October 2006 at Feria de Madrid. This new exhibition offers an additional dimension to this grand event for the building industry, joining the other exhibitions that have been incorporated at previous editions, such as DECOTEC, the Interior Design Exhibition, and the Monographic Prefabricated Concrete Exhibition. The latter is promoted by the National Association of Prefabricated Cement By-Product Companies, ANDECE.
The purpose of the Monographic Exhibition of Wood in Architecture is to promote the use of a product within the building trade that offers a number of high-performance properties, according to various different studies. Any overall comparison with concrete or steel reflects more favourably on wood, which is more environmentally friendly, given that energy costs are much lower. What is more, this material is natural, biodegradable, recyclable and an excellent insulator. It is not toxic and helps to fix CO2 levels. The comparison between wooden structures and steel and concrete structures also favours wood when we consider the total energy consumed in building a house and the rates with which water and the atmosphere are polluted.
Both IFEMA, in its capacity as the fair organizer, and the industry are committed to reducing levels of pollution. The various business associations representing the industry clearly support this initiative. We are referring to the Spanish Federation of Wood Industries, the Spanish Federation of Wood Pavements, FEPM, and the Spanish Association of Wood Importers, AEIM.
The fair aims to provide the widest possible overview of this area of economic activity by bringing together the following sectors: Elements for Structures and Covers; Pre-Fabricated and Industrialized Construction; Urban Furniture; Playground Equipment; Carpentry; Flooring and Wood Treatment and Maintenance.
The Monographic Exhibition of Wood in Architecture will present a comprehensive selection of beams, structural boards, light structures, hardboard materials, doors, roll-mop blinds, lattices, stairs and banisters, cupboards and fitted wardrobes, linings, parquet floors, wooden floorboards, skirting-boards, coffered ceilings ... The main material in all these products is wood.
The Monographic Exhibition of Wood in Architecture is aimed mainly at architects. Quantity surveyors and Technical architects; Civil engineers; Industrial engineers; Builders; Property developers; Stockists and Distributors; Decorators; Fitters; Quantity surveyors; Land administrators; Students of architecture, engineering and technical engineering, Technical engineers for public works.
ISG, International Services Group, is the body responsible for marketing the fair, which will have its own exhibition space in Hall 8 at Feria de Madrid. The organizers estimate that the final net exhibition area will measure some 3,525 square metres.
The Monographic Exhibition of Wood in Architecture will be complemented by the various other sections that make up the Building Exhibition, CONSTRUTEC-DECOTEC and the Monographic Prefabricated Concrete Exhibition. This fair is one of the most comprehensive trade exhibitions in its field.  The fair will occupy five of the ten halls of IFEMA exhibition facilities.
The fairground itself, featuring a series of modern facilities and infrastructures, located as it is close to the International Airport of  Barajas and featuring excellent links, provides an optimum setting for professionals to make the very most of their attendance at the fair.
