Panama’s International Technology Park
Located on the banks of the Panama Canal and occupying the installations of a former military base, the City of Knowledge—a Panamanian project aimed at inserting the country into the world of technology and innovation through research—is flourishing.
The Republic of Panama is located at the narrowest point of the American continent. To the north its coasts are washed by the waters of the Caribbean; on the east the country borders with Colombia, on the south with the Pacific Ocean, and on the west with Costa Rica.
Due to its unequalled geographic position and accessibility, via the Hub of COPA Airlines or the four major ports, three on the Caribbean and one on the Pacific that are considered the most modern in Latin America, Panama is home to the largest Logistics and Cargo Center in the region. Panama has access to the five main fiber optic cables
Panama has a stable and democratically elected government. Year after year Panama’s economic performance has been better than practically all other Latin American countries. Over the past forty years Panama’s inflation rate has averaged less than 2% per year, which is unparalleled in Latin America.
The Panamanian government encourages investment in the City of Knowledge. Decree Law No. 6 of February 10, 1998, grants immigration and fiscal incentives for affiliated enterprises as well as immigration and fiscal incentives for researchers, technicians, entrepreneurs, educators, students, and their families. Additionally, the diplomas issued by the academic organizations are recognized by the Panamanian authorities.
Panama offers a year-round tropical climate, low cost of living, security and efficiency of public utilities, favorable offshore banking laws, a stable economy with the U.S. dollar as legal tender, government incentives for investment that eliminate tariffs and tax rates for businessmen, and a diverse geography ranging from mountains to tropical islands and from a bustling metropolis to vast and densely wooded jungle areas, all contribute to the incredible range and variety of incentives and opportunities for investment
The Panama International Technology Park promotes the development of innovative high technology enterprises by means of the Business Technology Accelerator of Panama, ATEP, which offers administrative services, consultation and counseling, training and follow-up services in order for entrepreneurs to develop their innovative ideas in a secure and controlled atmosphere until such time the enterprise is prepared to compete in the target market.
Panama’s International Technology Park, TIP, takes up over 28,000 square meters of buildings and structures available for offices and laboratories within the City of Knowledge. Located between a national park and the Panama Canal, TIP offers the added value of a state-of-the-art data transmission infrastructure, as well as access to five international fiber optic cables that cross the country: PAC, SAC, ARCOS, Pan-American, and MAYA.
TIP offers a leading edge due to its location, infrastructure and environment, which are ideal for companies with activities in the areas of information and communication technology, alternate power sources, education, logistics services, agro industry, biotechnology, and health sciences.
